Hi,

I am a science postgraduate and have been educated and conducted research in 'mainstream' scientific institutes. While I have an interest in 'mainstream' scientific matters; my main interests are in areas which are commonly described as 'Frontier science' or 'Fringe Science'.

I am currently looking to either embark on a Ph.D or gain employment in a private company which deals in these areas.

It has been a major effort to find real information to this effect and seems that the mainstream scientific community doesn't have much regard for these areas and private companies seem to be relatively scarce.

I am wondering does any have an opinion, share same thoughts and/or in particular have any information regarding 'a career in Frontier/Fringe Science'.

The particular areas I am interested in : Cognitive enhancement, Use of Virtual Reality technology in human development, Alternative medicine/healing via technology/human mind, Mind Machines.

p.s. apologies if this stuff sounds a bit heavy

Frontier science is what transhumanism is all about

There's no need to apologize for that stuff sounding heavy - we welcome heavy topics here

The only advice I can think of to help you with your plans for a career in this stuff is - check out the hplusroadmap group. Their website is http://heybryan.org (though the website is hosted on one of Bryan's personal PCs, and the site is sometimes down)

I recommend going to their chatroom, and giving a brief explanation of the projects you want to work on. You may need to wait a while before someone replies. Most of the people there only check the IRC chatroom a few times per day, because they're busy working on other important stuff
